What does being a member of the CAIA community mean to you?
Being a member of the CAIA community to me is a sense of belonging amongst like-minded people working towards a common goal of making the lives of agricultural people better. A community of a group of people that care about one another to create a system of love and support for one another.
What are you seeking from the transdisciplinary opportunities that CAIA offers?
The main reason that compelled and inspired me to opt for graduate research in Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture Science at Virginia Tech is my interest in doing transdisciplinary research that was gradually developed during my bachelor’s degree. I completed my undergraduate in Mechanical Engineering from IIT (BHU) Varanasi, India. Thanks to my good programming skills and proclivity to computer vision developed during my undergraduate, shaped the enthusiasm that I have today for working in the area of precision agriculture. When I think about the different realms of engineering, it is hard to think of a domain that is going to change as much as agriculture will, in the decades ahead, owing to their ubiquitous usage. My research interests lie in the interface of AI/ML and engineering because of my interdisciplinary background comprising agriculture science, computer science, and mechanical engineering. I have been involved in several projects affiliated with CAIA that require knowledge of engineering and agriculture science. CAIA is the best platform where I can enhance my existing interdisciplinary technical skills but also instill in me the qualities necessary to carry out independent research and practice application-oriented thinking. On the whole, I expect to use my graduate school experience to develop into a well-rounded individual, competent on both technological and social fronts.
